Melody C. Miller is an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer whose creative storytelling and advocacy make her films a powerful voice for change, promoting understanding, empathy, and positive change.

Melody is dedicated to developing impactful projects that engage audiences, inspire meaningful conversations, and drive positive change. Her critically acclaimed PBS feature documentaries have made a positive impact worldwide.

California's Forgotten Children sheds light on an important human rights issue and received recognition at the United States Senate for fostering a movement to help protect children. While her electrifying film about one of the influential poets of the Beat Generation, ruth weiss, the beat goddess earned an Emmy Award for Best Historical and Cultural Documentary.

Currently, she is directing Thriv(h)er, her third feature, exploring the complex journey of young cancer survivors navigating motherhood. To deepen her medical knowledge for this project, she is pursuing a certificate in Media and Medicine: How to Tell Stories that Make a Difference at Harvard Medical School.

Melody has also directed and photographed branded documentaries for Samsung, Logitech, Hyundai, Sofi Stadium, and Amazon.

Winner of the Women in Film Cinematography Award, Melody has lensed documentaries and narrative films across Asia, Europe, and North America. Her credits include the action film Dimensional Shift (dir. Amber Sharp) and the art noir #WhereIsBeauty (dir. Angela McCrae), which received Best Cinematography at the Idlewild International Film Festival. She filmed National Parks for Link TV's On Common Ground and is currently Director of Photography for Kat Alioshin’s feature documentary Made of Iron, which profiles women succeeding in the ironworking industry.

She holds a degree from the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television, as well as a degree in Art and Humanities from Berkeley City College.

Melody furthered her cinematography training at the Global Cinematography Institute and Canon USA, learning from Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC, Bruno Delbonnel, ASC, Dante Spinotti, ASC, Guillermo Navarro, ASC, and Haskell Wexler, ASC.

Melody’s artistic perspective was shaped by her upbringing in Oakland, California, and Mediterranean heritage, igniting the roots of her filmmaking career. She is based in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area and is available for travel.
