When I left for China, my equipment was too heavy, so I ended up not bringing my lights. I thought it would be easy to rent them in China, since most film lights are mostly made in there. However, it has not been easy – even with the help of natives. Finally, we got a lead today on a studio lighting rental house. I went there and it was very dirty and unorganized, but they had what I needed and that was perfect. At first they would not give it to us because I am a girl. They said: "What is this young girl going to do with these, she does not know how to use them." My translator could not communicate well, and so to communicate what I wanted in detail I drew out every single piece in the light that I needed. I decided to get a 4-bank and 2-bank Kino flow with 3200K and 5600K bulbs, and one 650W. I went around the garage and found the lights that I needed and set them up by myself, tested them, and then neatly packed them down. They were very impress and understood that I knew what I was doing and what I wanted in detail.
So they gave us a huge discount and didn’t take a deposit because they trusted me! My employer was very happy and me too. Onward with filming! Comments are closed.
